July 14th 2026 ( 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM )

Join FoRR for the sixth talk in our Reedy River speaker series, By the Banks. Grab a brew and hear from scientists, storytellers, and the river experts about everything from local ecology to urban runoff.

On July 14, environmental consultant and FoRR Board Emeritus Dr. Robert Hanley and Greenville Water watershed conservationist Luke Polson will explore the diverse habitats found along our rivers ( riparian buffers, vernal pools, and other vital ecosystems) and the fascinating wildlife they support, with a special focus on salamanders!

Dr. Hanley will discuss the structure and function of healthy riverside habitats and why they are essential to protecting water quality and biodiversity. Luke Polson will then introduce the salamander species found in our region and explain how these remarkable amphibians can serve as indicators of healthy habitat and clean water. Together, they'll highlight the important connection between thriving riparian ecosystems and healthy rivers, with plenty of time for audience Q&A.

Fun for all ages, this is a great opportunity to bring the whole family, whether you're a lifelong salamander enthusiast or simply curious about the wildlife that calls the Reedy River watershed home!

Event Notes:  Please arrive around 6 PM to socialize, grab a beverage, and order snacks or dinner to enjoy while our presenters share their stories! Talks will begin at 6:30 PM. We can't wait to see you soon!
